Understanding NIS2
What is the NIS2 directive?
NIS2 (Directive (EU) 2022/2555) strengthens the cybersecurity obligations of many European organisations: risk management, incident reporting, supply chain security and management body accountability.
What is the difference between an essential and an important entity?
Essential entities (large companies in sectors of high criticality) are subject to proactive (ex ante) supervision and heavier penalties. Important entities have similar obligations, with reactive (ex post) supervision.
Can a small business be affected?
Rarely directly, except for certain services (DNS, domain name registries, trust services…). But it can be affected indirectly: its customers that are subject to NIS2 will impose security requirements on it.
Has France transposed NIS2 yet?
Not yet: France's NIS2 transposition law was still before the French Parliament in autumn 2026. The final French text may adjust the details, which is why this test gives an indicative result only.
